Though the turnout for this semester's Faculty Luncheon was low, we still had a great time talking with professors and faculty members. We had turkey and roast beef subs, as well as a lemon dessert and plenty of fruit. We hope to see much more professors next semester.

Parent's Dinner this fall was a great success. Approximately 100 people attended, and we raised $896 for PUSH America. The dinner was a delicious choice of lemon caper chicken or beef tenderloin. A special thanks goes out to our magnificent cook and brother Jeremy Brewington, brothers who were waiters and dishwashers, and photographer Brad Lechkun, who all showed outstanding efforts throughout the entire night.

Last weekend Alpha Phi held the Ritual of Initiation for its Spring 09 Associate Member Class. Of the 2 members in the class, David Hoppe was initiated. We also had 2 alumni initiates, Jeremy Brewington and Kevin Ford. Jeremy has been the house chef for the last 3 years, and plans to be with us for many more. Kevin Ford is father to one of our undergraduate members, and is a licensed contractor who has helped the fraternity with Accessability projects, the new grill, and finding a great location for the 75th anniversary Roseball. Hopefully all 23 of our current pledges will be initiated next semester. More info will come as we get closer to the date.

Alpha Phi Hosts BBQ for Sig Eps, Inaugurate New Grill PDF Print E-mail

For those that haven't been back to the chapter house in a while, there have been some significant changes outside. The deck has been remodeled, and a new brick grill was built out front of the house facing the quad. The grill was finally completed last night as the new grates were put in. Since this was going to be the first cookout with the new grill, we hoped to get some good karma from it by hosting a BBQ for the Sig Eps.

For those that are unaware, the Sig Eps are in a lawsuit with the school right now, trying to stop a new policy that prevents freshmen from moving into the chapter houses. As a sign of our appreciation for their suit, we had brats, burgers, chicken, potato salad, fruit, and a whole array of food ready to go. The night was a success, as there was more than enough food for everyone. Alpha Phi looks forward to having more sibling hood events with the Sig Eps in the future.

This rush period (as it was 2 weeks long) was exhausting. It started the same day as school, and needless to say everyone was exhausted at the end. However, we reap what we sow, as the Alpha Phi chapter was able to pre-initiate 24 new members! These new members range from freshmen, to seniors, grad students, and graduates coming back for another undergraduate degree. Of the 24 members, 9 have moved into the chapter house. We hope to have at least another 10 into the house by Spring. The members of Alpha Phi have now started to focus on Spring Rush, planning events this semester so that we may have our class ready to go in January. If you have any event ideas, or would like to help in with Alpha Phi's spring rush, please contact Dan Shaffer at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
